Memorial Day Ceremony

Camp Nelson National Cemetery
There will be a Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:00 AM on Monday the 25th of May at Camp Nelson National Ceremony located approximately 5 miles south of Nicholasville, KY on US Highway 27. The Program format has been developed by the Central KY Cemeteries Committee a volunteer group of Veterans and interested local citizens with the majority of
expenses being underwritten by the Corporal Bill McMillan-Bluegrass Chapter of the Association of the United States Army
The Program for Memorial Day 2015 will have several added features from what those who have attended Ceremonies in the past remember.
The first change
and in some ways most different and important to the whole experience is the parking for ceremony attendees. For those coming from the North on US Highway 27 will be directed to parking at the Jessamine County Heritage Park known by some as the Camp Nelson “White House”. Thos coming from the south will be directed to parking inside the Camp Nelson Cemetery. For those who park in the Heritage Park, they will be shuttled to the main gate near the ceremony by FOUR (4) 14 PASSANGER BUSES. Golf carts will be located both at Heritage Park and Camp Nelson to assist those who are semi-ambulatory/need assistance getting to the buse and from the buses or their cars in Camp Nelson to the ceremony.
The other changes
are additions to the traditional ceremony. We will be memorializing the 150th year since the end of the Civil War and the 50th year since the end of the Vietnam War. Re-enactors for Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas will be included in the ceremony as well as a Patriotic fly over of a B-25 “Mitchell” bomber (see attached description) and an expanded musical program by the West Jessamine High School Band as well as vocals by the Diggles Music Ministry and by Johnetta Porter.

COME EARLY AND BRING SEATING
(STADIUM FOLD UP CHAIRS, RECOMMENDED).
